It's been almost 80 years since an unprecedented atomic bomb wreaked havoc in Japan, leaving behind a devastation so severe, it will never be forgotten. American pilot Paul Warfield Tibbets Jr, then aged 30, changed the course of history when he dropped the first atomic bomb over Hiroshima, Japan, during World War ll, instantly killing 78,000 people. Nicknamed 'Little Boy' and plunged from the USAAF B-29 bomber, Enola Gay; August 6, 1945 marks the deadly day the device would ravish entire towns in its wake.

Ten months after its senseless destruction shook the nation, the Sycamore Gap Tree has begun to show the first signs of new life. Scientists from the National Trust have confirmed that eight new shoots are growing from the stump of the felled tree. While the shoots are only between two and four centimetres tall at the moment, each could one day become part of a canopy for a regenerated tree.

A Border Patrol agent tried to reassure her that help is on the way, but after more than 20 minutes Poma Perez slips and falls to her death from the top of the 30-foot wall in the California border city of Otay Mesa on March 21.

A class action lawsuit has been filed after thousands of hospital patients were told they may have been exposed to various illnesses including HIV. Nearly 2,400 patients who underwent anesthesia at the Oregon facilities could also be at risk of infections such as hepatitis B and C, the Oregon Health Authority said this month. The tainted procedures were the fault of a since-fired anesthesiologist, they said - all administered between March 2022 and February 2024.
