8 Famous Faces Who've Been Banned from the Met Gala, Denounced It or Vowed Not to Go Back

When the rich and famous flock to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Met Gala on the first Monday in May, a few celebrities won’t be in attendance — but only one public figure will miss out by mandate rather than choice.

ChairAnna Wintourherself named the exiled person in 2017, but others have spoken out against the event.

The latest member of the upper echelon to denounce the Met Gala wasJohn F. KennedyandJackie Kennedy Onassis’ only grandson,Jack Schlossberg.

In 2025, he said he loves the event and has had a great time attending in the past, but he didn't plan on going again as long as the country — and world at large — is in turmoil.

“It’s just not the time for a party like that,” Schlossberg said in an Instagram video that’s since been deleted.

So who is that one famous face banned from the Met Gala, who else won’t be attending of their own volition and who has previously denounced the gala? Here’s everything to know about the biggest celebrity fashion event’s blacklist.

Donald Trump

Donald Trumpis the only figure who is outright banned from the Met Gala.

During a 2017 appearance onThe Late Late Show with James Corden, the host asked Wintour who she would never invite back to the esteemed event.

With no hesitation, she answered, “Donald Trump.”

In a 2015 appearance onThe Late Show with David Letterman,Tina Feycalled the Met Gala, which she attended once in 2010, a “jerk parade.”

“I went and I dragged my husband along with me too, which I’m still in trouble for,” she told the talk show host. “Everybody [is there], everybody. If you had a million arms, all the people you would punch in the whole world are all there."

"Clearly, I will never go again,” she added.

Jack Schlossberg

Taking after his late grandfather with a passion for social justice, Schlossberg started a boycott of the Met Gala on social media in 2025.

“I’m Jack. I love to party and I’ve been to the Met Gala before,” he said in aTikTok video. “I had a great time. But this year, with so much happening around the world and at home, I cannot in good conscience go to the Met Gala."

Lili Reinhart

After seemingly blastingKim Kardashianfor exacerbating diet culture by restricting food tofit into Marilyn Monroe’s famous “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” gownfor the 2022 Met Gala,Lili Reinhartsaid she doubts she’ll be invited back to the event.

After the gala, Reinhartseemingly called out Kardashianon her Instagram Stories.

“To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are ... because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month ... all to fit in a f---ing dress? So wrong. So f---ed on 100s of levels,” the actress wrote.

She also encouraged her audience to “stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities.”

Later in the year, during an interview withWMagazine, Reinhart said she enjoyed herself during all three Met Galas she’s attended, but she doesn’t expect to experience the event again.

“[It] was fun, but after going again this year, I don’t think I’ll be invited back ... I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress,” she said.

Zayn Malik

Zayn Malikattended the 2016 Met Gala with his ex-girlfriend,Gigi Hadid.

However, the former One Direction member said he wouldn’t attend again because he believes the gala is a vapid display of celebrity.

In a 2018 interview withGQ, Malik said, “Now, it’s not something I would go to. I’d rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet.”

The musician added, “To do the self-indulgent ‘Look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”

Tim Gunn

According toTim Gunn, he was previously uninvited from the Met Gala in 2016 due to a feud with Wintour.

“I was asked, ‘What is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion?’ And I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards — two big hulking men — from a fashion show,' ” the formerProject Runwayhost toldE!.

Gunn added that he and the fashion editor were in an "open war" ever since.

Amy Schumer

Like Malik,Amy Schumerdisavowed the Met Gala because of its extreme indulgence.

During a2016 interviewwithHoward Stern, the comedian said, “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce ... We’re dressed up like a bunch of f---ing assholes. I don’t like it.”

She added, I have no interest in fashion ... I don’t care.”

Schumer did, however, attend fashion's biggest night the following year as well as 2022.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato attends the

In 2018,Demi Lovatosaid her experience at the Met Gala in 2016 was so bad that it made her want to relapse.

In an interview withBillboard, Lovato said she immediately attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting after the event.

“I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink,” the singer shared, explaining that she had a negative encounter with a certain celebrity and felt the event was very "cliquey."

“I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on — millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting,” Lovato continued. “And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala.”

She did, however, return to the event in 2024.

Seiya Suzuki hit a 455-foot home run for the NL Central leaders, who improved to 23-12 with their 16th win in 19 games. Chicago has won 12 in a row at home, the team’s best streak at Wrigley Field since a 14-game run in 2008.

The Reds took a 4-3 lead in the eighth when Spencer Steer lined an RBI single against Ben Brown, only to drop their fourth straight.

Pete Crow-Armstrong tripled leading off the ninth against Emilio Pagán (2-1) on a ball that popped out of center fielder Dane Myers’ glove as he tried to make a leaping catch against the wall. Crow-Armstrong scored one out later on Nico Hoerner’s sacrifice fly.

Conforto, batting for Matt Shaw, then drove a 3-2 pitch to center and was mobbed by happy teammates as he crossed home plate.

The teams waited out a delay of 1 hour, 40 minutes at the start because of a thunderstorm after the game was initially moved up a half hour.

The Cubs trailed 3-0 in the fourth before Suzuki tied it with a three-run drive off Chase Petty, Chicago’s longest homer of the season.

Edward Cabrera went six innings, allowing three runs and nine hits. He gave up a homer to JJ Bleday leading off the third and a two-run drive to Ke’Bryan Hayes in the fourth.

Ryan Rolison (2-0) worked the ninth.

In his first major league start this season, Petty gave up three runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings. The Reds recalled the right-hander from Triple-A Louisville prior to the game.

USMNT World Cup roster watch: Sergiño Dest is back, but the real concern is the back line

We have reached the point of theWorld Cup countdownwhere every crunching challenge, every slight limp and every premature exit from a club match is a matter of concern for national team bosses and anxiety-ridden fans.

Yahoo Sports

A late-season injury — or, in the case, of Major League Soccer, an early-season setback — could very well impact roster selections and lineup decisions ahead of this summer’s footy festival.

Brazil will arrive without Real Madrid’s Rodrygo (ACL). France will miss Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike (Achilles tendon). The Netherlands lost Tottenham’s Xavi Simons (ACL). Mexico’s top goalkeeper, Club América’s Luis Angel Malagon,is out with a ruptured Achilles. Spain’s teen phenom, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, is ina race against time because of a hamstring ailment.

U.S. coach Mauricio Pochettino has not confronted any catastrophic setbacks and, until his squad gathers late this month for World Cup training camp, he will pray it remains that way.

Yes, Derby County’s Patrick Agyemanginjured his Achillesthis spring but was not certain of making the 26-man roster. Holstein Kiel’s John Tolkin (knee) and St. Pauli’s James Sands (ankle) were long shots before their injuries, and Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers (Achilles) has been out since October.

The weekend delivered heartening news — Sergiño Dest’s return to active duty after almost two months away — but also ongoing concern about center backs Tim Ream and Miles Robinson.

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - MAY 2: Sergino Dest of PSV during the Dutch Eredivisie match between Ajax v PSV at the Johan Cruijff Arena on May 2, 2026 in Amsterdam Netherlands (Photo by Photo Prestige/Soccrates/Getty Images)

Dest, Pochettino’s first-choice right back, was in uniform for PSV Eindhoven for the first time since injuring a hamstring March 7. He entered in the 59th minute of a 2-2 draw at Ajax, leaving two remaining Eredivisie outings to continue regaining match fitness — and avoiding a setback — before U.S. camp opens May 27 in Greater Atlanta.

Should all go well, Pochettino would aim to start Dest in one or both of the last tuneups:May 31 against Senegal in CharlotteandJune 6 against Germany in Chicago. The World Cup opener isJune 12 against Paraguay in Inglewood, California.

The state of the back line, though, is far from perfect. Already lacking central depth, Pochettino is monitoring the status of Ream and Robinson.

Ream, a core player since Pochettino’s appointment in fall of 2024, has missed 4½ matches across all competitions for Charlotte FC with an adductor injury. On Thursday, Charlotte coach Dean Smith said Ream, 38, had a setback in his recovery but should return Saturday against Cincinnati.

Robinson — a possible World Cup selection who missed the March friendlies with a groin injury — has missed three consecutive Cincinnati matches and, because of ailments and a red card, logged just 64 minutes in six weeks. Both Charlotte and Cincinnati have four matches before Pochettino announces his roster May 26 in New York.

The center-back corps also includes Crystal Palace’s Chris Richards, Celtic’s Auston Trusty, Toulouse’s Mark McKenzie and Vancouver’s Tristan Blackmon.

Here’s how the prime World Cup candidates performed over the weekend:

England

Defensive midfielder Tyler Adams started for the first time since returning from a hamstring injury three weeks ago, registering 70 minutes in Bournemouth’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Adams was a second-half sub the previous three matches for the Cherries, who are unbeaten in 15 straight Premier League games to surge into sixth place.

Richards was slated to rest ahead of Thursday’s second leg of the UEFA Conference League semifinals against Shakhtar Donetsk — Palace won the opener, 3-1, last week — but a teammate’s injury required his services in the 76th minute.

Left back Antonee Robinson’s first start since April 11 was a forgettable one as he struggled in Fulham’s 3-0 loss at first-place Arsenal.

Midfielder Brenden Aaronson was a 72nd-minute sub as Leeds moved seven points clear of the relegation zone with a 3-0 triumph over relegated Burnley.

On the final day of the second-flight Championship, defensive midfielder Aidan Morris — a World Cup roster bubble-dweller — played his usual 90 minutes in Middlesbrough’s 2-2 draw at Wrexham. By finishing fifth, his club will face fourth-place Southampton in a two-leg promotion playoff semifinal. Millwall and Hull City are in the other bracket.

With a second-half appearance in first-place Coventry City’s 4-0 win at Watford, striker Haji Wright finished tied for second in league scoring with 17 goals. He had 18 in all competitions — his sixth straight season with at least 12 — and earned a place on the league’sTeam of the Season.

Italy

Christian Pulisic’s 2026 scoreless streak swelled to 17 Serie A matches — and 19 for club and country — during a 31-minute spell in AC Milan’s 2-0 loss at Sassuolo. Shut out for the fifth time in seven matches, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri called the performance “the worst of the season.”

It comesamid reportsManchester United is interested in acquiring Pulisic, who has one year left on his Milan contract.

Weston McKennie began Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona as a wing back before moving into the midfield.

France

With the first goal in a2-1 comeback victoryat Metz, Monaco’s Folarin Balogun resumed his sensational 2026 by scoring in the ninth of 10 Ligue 1 appearances and increasing his season haul to 13. He also has five goals in the Champions League and one in the Coupe de France for 19 overall — three short of his career high at Reims in 2022-23.

McKenzie logged 90 in Toulouse’s 2-1 win at Strasbourg. Though apparently healthy, midfielder Tanner Tessmann was left out of Lyon’s matchday squad by coach Paulo Fonseca before a 4-2 victory over Rennes.

Winger Tim Weah served a yellow-card suspension for Olympique Marseille’s 3-0 loss at Nantes.

Germany

Usually a right wing back, Joe Scally started on the left and played 90 minutes in Mönchengladbach’s 1-0 upset of second-place Borussia Dortmund. Midfielder Gio Reyna entered in the 70th minute; he hasn’t started since Dec. 18.

Midfielder Malik Tillman entered in the 85th of Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 win over RB Leipzig, his sixth consecutive match without starting.

Spain

After serving exclusively as a sub for the start of his Villarreal tenure, right back Alex Freeman was in the lineup for the second consecutive La Liga match, going the distance in a 3-1 win over Levante.

After starting the Champions League semifinal opener vs. Arsenal last week, midfielder Johnny Cardoso was rested ahead of Tuesday’s second leg in London as Atlético Madrid won at Valencia, 2-0.

Netherlands

In PSV Eindhoven’s 2-2 draw at Ajax, striker Ricardo Pepi scored in the first minute — his fourth goal in three matches, 14th in league play and 17th in 31 appearances overall.

Scotland

Trusty played every minute for the 31st time in the past 33 matches as Celtic won at Hibernian, 2-1, to pull level on points with leader Hearts, who have a superior goal differential and played one fewer game.

Pushing for a World Cup roster slot after missing the March window, midfielder Diego Luna scored for the third time in five matches for Real Salt Lake, which defeated Portland, 2-0.

Midfielder Sebastian Berhalter assisted on the equalizer with a pinpoint free kick as Vancouver drew with the Los Angeles Galaxy, 1-1. Blackmon went 90.

Columbus winger Max Arfsten (90 minutes) assisted with a clever touch during a 3-2 loss to Minnesota.

Seattle’s Cristian Roldan returned from a concussion absence to play 90 in a 1-1 draw at Kansas City.

Mexico

In the first leg of a Liga MX quarterfinal, Alex Zendejas converted an 85th-minute penalty kick to help Club América rebound from a late two-goal deficit at home and draw with Pumas, 3-3.

Between the posts

Matt Turner remained in fine form and recorded his third clean sheet as New England edged Charlotte, 1-0.

Matt Freese did not receive any help in New York City’s 2-0 loss to D.C. United.

Roman Celentano saved a penalty kick in stoppage time before Cincinnati converted one of its own in a 3-2 win over Chris Brady and Chicago.

Anthony Volpe returns from injury - and Yankees option him to minors

TheNew York Yankeesstormed out to the best record in the American League withoutAnthony Volpe. And now that their shortstop is healthy enough to return, they've decided to carry on without him.

USA TODAY Sports

The Yankees returned Volpe from his minor league rehab assignment and assigned him to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, May 3, a moderately surprising move for a player that was once seemingly a part of the club's core.

Volpe, who turned 25 on April 28, underwent off-season surgery on his left shoulder and missed all of spring training, and a lengthy rehab assignment was always in the offing. Yet the club has received pleasantly surprising production from backup Jose Caballero, who has four home runs and a career-best .711 OPS.

Ballpark vibes, big plays and wild celebrations during 2026 MLB season

For now, he will hold down the spot for the 23-11 Yankees, who can sweep a four-game series from division rival Baltimore on Monday. In the bigger picture, Volpe also faces significant competition from top prospect George Lombard Jr., who was recently promoted from Class AA to AAA and is batting .304 with a .913 OPS and four homers across the two levels.

That would mark a precipitous fall for Volpe, who was drafted 30th overall in 2019 and emerged from a crowded field of prospect shortstops to win the full-time job over Oswald Peraza. He hit 21 home runs and finished eighth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2023 but his lifetime .283 on-base percentage and defensive misadventures lowered his stock.

Cavs use third-quarter surge to best Raptors in Game 7

Jarrett Allen scored 14 of his career playoff-high-tying 22 points in the third quarter and grabbed 19 rebounds, powering the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 114-102 win over the visiting Toronto Raptors on Sunday night in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference first-round series.

Field Level Media

Fourth-seeded Cleveland, which trailed by double digits in the first and second quarters, will play the top-seeded Detroit Pistons in the East semifinals, beginning Tuesday in Detroit. The home team won every game in the Cavaliers-Pistons series.

Donovan Mitchell also had 22 points and James Harden posted 18 points and six rebounds for the Cavaliers, who built a 94-72 lead early in the fourth. Allen had 10 rebounds -- five offensive -- in the third when Cleveland outscored the Raptors 38-19.

"Emotions were high and the crowd was into it," Allen said, before laughing, "Dr. J-A. I just had to let 'em know. I was just playing hard, trying to get us ahead.

Mitchell agreed about Allen's impact on both the game and the crowd.

"The crowd brought the same energy as Jarrett Allen," Mitchell said. "That dude took over. He was doing everything, getting steals, rebounds, scoring points.

Scottie Barnes collected 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists for fifth-seeded Toronto. RJ Barrett had 23 points on 9-of-25 field-goal attempts and Jamal Shead added 14 points and seven assists.

"For the stage of his career, (Barnes) gave it all," Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic said. "I don't want to sound like a broken record, but this is not the best version of Scottie we're going to see. He's going to be even better next season."

Despite his coach's praise, Barnes found plenty to blame for his team's loss.

"They worked harder than us in this game," he said. "They had 20 offensive rebounds. They had four guys crashing every play, even 5-10, 5-11 guys crashing the glass."

Cleveland is 5-0 all-time at home in Game 7 and has beaten the Raptors all 11 times in the playoffs in its arena. The Cavaliers also have won all four of their postseason series against Toronto.

Evan Mobley, who had 13 points, scored the first basket of the second half to give Cleveland its initial lead at 51-49. It turned into a 20-2 run spanning the second and third quarters when Mitchell made a hoop with 9:28 remaining in the third to make it 58-49.

"Jarrett (Allen) really took us over the top with that third-quarter performance," Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson said. "That's the best I've ever seen him. He was just absolutely incredible tonight."

Cleveland used an 11-2 run to close the opening half, tying the score for the first time at 49-all on a Jaylon Tyson 3-pointer. Shead and Barnes led all players at the half with 14 points apiece, while Harden had 10 points and Sam Merrill added eight off the bench.

"It felt like we had them," Barrett said. "That's what's going to hurt. We definitely could have won this game and won this series."

The Cavaliers committed 13 turnovers in the first half, which Toronto turned into 14 points. Cleveland had six miscues in the first quarter and seven in the second.

Barnes netted the first five points of the evening after Allen missed a dunk on Cleveland's opening possession. Shead made a runner to give the Raptors a 22-12 advantage, but Merrill had five points in the final three minutes to cut it to 26-24.

Shead scored seven points in the period and Barnes had five points and four assists, helping Toronto shoot 55% (11 of 20) from the floor.

The Raptors were without two starters, small forward Brandon Ingram (right heel soreness) and point guard Immanuel Quickley (right hamstring strain).

"We gave it all, everything we had today," Rajakovic said. "Our guys were awesome. We made it hard on (the Cavaliers)."

PWHL issues 1-game suspension and $250 fine against Frost's Curl-Salemme after playoff series opener

AP Hockey Writer (AP) — Frost forward Britta Curl-Salemme has been suspended by the PWHL for one game and fined $250 for two separate plays in Minnesota’s playoff semifinal series opener against Montreal, the league announced on Monday.

Curl-Salemme’s suspension stems from a game misconduct she received for an illegal check to the head on Kaitlin Willoughby in the final minute of the second period ofMinnesota’s 5-4 overtime win on Saturday. The league’s Player Safety Committee determined Curl-Salemme made no attempt to play the puck and raised her forearm to complete the check in deeming the hit to Willoughby’s head being avoidable.

The fine was the result of Curl-Salemme’s altercation with Montreal’s Abby Roque, in which both were penalized for roughing earlier in the second period. The committee determined supplemental discipline was warranted in noting the Frost forward grabbed and pulled Roque’s facial protector in sending the player “to the ice with a degree of violence.”

The Frost are two-time defending Walter Cup champions, and Curl-Salemme will miss Game 2 of the best-of-five series to be played at Montreal on Tuesday. The second-year player finished the regular season third in the league with 29 points, including a PWHL-leading 18 assists.

This is Curl-Salemme's first suspension of the season, though she was fined $250 for a cross-checking penalty in March. Last season, she was issued three separate one-game suspensions, twice for illegal checks to the head, and the other time for high-sticking.
